Swim Technique Tips
Below are links to videos that may help your swimmer visualize correct stroke technique.
All swimmers 7 years old and up, can get disqualified for incorrect stroke technique, incorrect turns, or incorrect finishes. The coaches will review these rules at each practice and we will discuss disqualifications with swimmers after each meet. Practices will emphasize drills to improve technique and correct flaws to avoid future disqualifications. The most important "rules" and techniques to remember:
- When swimming butterfly or breaststroke, the swimmer must touch the wall on turn and finish with 2 hands at the same time.
- When swimming butterfly, both arms must come out of the water at the same time. No other kick than butterfly (or "dolphin") is allowed.
- When swimming breaststroke, the swimmer can only do one kick for each pull and the head must come out of the water with each pull. No other kick except breaststroke (or "frog kick") is allowed.
- When swimming backstroke, swimmers must finish on their back.
- In relays, the next swimmer can not leave the wall until the swimmer touches.
